Dr. Diane Pennington is Senior Lecturer in Information Science and the Course Director for the MSc/PGDip in Information and Library Studies in the Department of Computer and Information Sciences at the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow.

 

Dr. Pennington’s research areas include non-text information indexing and retrieval, qualitative methods for visual information and Emotional Information Retrieval (EmIR).

 

Diane spoke with me in Feb 2016 to discuss her research in non-text information indexing and retrieval, qualitative methods for visual information, Emotional Information Retrieval (EmIR), information organisation, the limits of computer systems, user behaviours on social media, and online health information preferences as well as the technical side of data through Relational Databases and the future and history of databases.

We also discussed her childhood, growing up in a house full of computers, her computer pioneer father and his struggle with dementia and the technologies that are helping dementia patients today.
